About Vadim

Hey there – My name is Vadim and welcome to my blog. I guess you clicked here to get a little more information about me, or do some sort of background check before you read more of my stuff? Well, here’s the lowdown. I’m born and raised in Montreal, Canada, therefore I’m quite likely to be bilingual (yes, I am) with English and French. I’m quite an eclectic guy, some call me a jack-of-all-trades (and I like to say Master-of-None right after that).

I went to McGill University, spent too many years there working towards initially, a B.Sc in Anatomy & Cell Biology, then switched on over to Computer Science where I drifted in no-man’s land I’d say. I was doing web development back in the day (first website of mine was in 1997) and decided to quit school (after around 4 years at McGill) and grow my personal business – I was too young or just immature, and realized quite quickly I needed to work for somebody first. I got quickly hired as a web developer for a retail software company – it gave me my first job – salary wasn’t great, but hey, it paid the bills. I was extremely fortunate to have had 2 great managers to work for which made a large impact on me for my future: after 3.5 years at this company, I had the opportunity to start my own photography company.

During my programming days, I worked with a buddy of mine and we did web development/IT servicing for businesses, we got incorporated as Epicmind Solutions Inc – so instead of tossing that away, I became sole shareholder and refreshed the company’s IT sounding name to EpicMind Studio – a nicer artsy twist. So over the past 7+ years, I’ve been mostly photography/designer and have now taken on the role of creative director overseeing jobs with alongside my employees and clients. Over these years, I no longer did photography “for pleasure” and instead did it “for bringing food on the table”. In the beginning years it was tough – very tough. Luckily, year-after-year the business has grown, and our client list is always expanding. Photography is no longer just a means to make money – I can have fun, lots of it, while doing my job.

This is where this blog came in. I’ve been wanting to share some of my non-commercial pleasures with you all: Food, photography and other forms of art. It’s pure pleasure again.
